Meniscus Surgeon in prayagraj - Dr. Prashant Tripathi

Meniscus repair surgery is a common orthopedic procedure aimed at treating torn meniscus, a prevalent knee injury among individuals of various ages, particularly athletes. The meniscus is a C-shaped piece of cartilage in the knee that acts as a shock absorber, providing stability and cushioning to the joint.

Meniscus tears often occur due to sudden twisting or direct impact to the knee joint during activities like sports or heavy lifting. Symptoms of a torn meniscus include pain, swelling, stiffness, and difficulty in fully extending or bending the knee. If conservative treatments such as rest, ice, medication, and physical therapy fail to alleviate symptoms, surgical intervention may be necessary.

Meniscus repair surgery can be performed through arthroscopic or open techniques, depending on the severity and location of the tear. Arthroscopic surgery involves making small incisions around the knee and inserting a tiny camera (arthroscope) and specialized instruments to visualize and repair the torn meniscus. This minimally invasive approach offers several benefits, including smaller incisions, reduced postoperative pain, faster recovery, and lower risk of complications.

During the procedure, the surgeon trims or removes damaged portions of the meniscus and then sutures the torn edges together to promote healing and restore knee function. In some cases, meniscal tears may be too severe or located in areas with limited blood supply, making repair challenging. In such instances, partial meniscectomy (removal of the torn portion) may be necessary to alleviate symptoms and prevent further damage.
